After serving on board the colony ship, Voyager Dawn, for ten years, Commander Robert Hadings faces promotion. He is thrilled with the idea of captaining his own ship, but the events on Dawn Six change his future dramatically. Instead of a colony ship, Hadings is put in charge of a megacarrier, a troop transport dubbed IMS Singapore, relocating colonists who are at risk of attack from the Naldím – the sworn enemy of the United Orion Empire.
Hadings boards his new ship with one ally, Claire Mondale, and together they face an unknown future on their new home ship. Before long, surprises and revelations turn an ordinary refugee transport mission into a dangerous series of encounters with the enemy.
